English translation:
Training and education: austrian composer, was part of the so-called Second Viennese school with his teacher Arnold Schoenberg and Anton Webern. His works tend to the emancipation of the shade before through the use of extended tonality, then finally the techniques of atonality and twelve-tone, though critics assign to the compositions of Berg function more conservative than that of his two colleagues. He came from a Jewish family of German origin who had settled in Vienna, where his father Konrad, a native of Nuremberg, became a wealthy merchant of used books and religious articles. But Alban did not have a happy childhood and was tormented for many years of his life as a form of depression, which led him, after a burning school failure, groped suicide at the age of eighteen anni. The young Berg had never conducted systematic studies of music, wrote music just for fun and lived his work as a bookkeeper in the town. In the same year he met Arnold Schoenberg who, impressed by his talent, accepted him as a student without requiring any compensation. In 1910, Berg left his employment with the municipal government, thanks to a substantial inheritance, to devote himself entirely to composition and, subsequently, to teaching. Its accession to the artistic expressionism posters approached the group of writers and painters such as Peter Altenberg and Karl Kraus. His musical youth was influenced by Schoenberg, the late Romanticism (particularly Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss) and of French Impressionism (Debussy). In 1912, his journey in search of a musical expression released tonal harmony, became a reality in a systematic use of dissonance, provoking reactions ambivalenti. In 1921 Berg finished his first opera, Wozzeck (by Georg Büchner), represented in Berlin four years later, characterized by a dramatic frame and some references to Italian opera (Giacomo Puccini). The last Berg was directed towards the romance-irrational, as it appeared in the second his work for the theater, Lulu, unfinished (the third act was completed by the composer and conductor Friedrich Cerha in the seventies). His music quickly established itself in all of Central Europe, at least until the advent of Hitler, when his compositions are censored as degenerate music, a brand of infamy which deprived Austria of the time of its best musical talent. He died in 1935 in Vienna for a septicemia caused by an insect bite poorly treated.

Catalog works:the music of Berg broke with the tonal tradition since the late Lieder dell'op.2, by the Quartet and by op.3 Three Pieces for Orchestra Op.6 to which they are joined by Four Pieces for clarinet and piano Op.5. Until the recent work, the opera Lulu and Violinkonzert, the style of Berg will always be torn between the desire for the future and atonal reminiscences related to the tonal tradition, with the notable exception of the orchestral Lieder op. 4 preseriale and modernist style.
