Grassl is a composer, conductor and artistic director of the International Paul-Hofhaymer Society Salzburg .
He studied in Salzburg music education, choral conducting and composition. His teaching career began Grassl in 1983 at theMozarteum . He habilitated in 2004 . From 1988 to 1997 Grassl stood before the Austrian Ensemble for New Music (oenm).
Worldwide performances and numerous premieres dominated this time. Together with the artists Otto Beck and Jörg Hofer created works for numerous Freilichtprojekte.Seine two operas "Pygmalion", "Sheherazade", have been performed in the opera houses of Cairo and Alexandria with the Austrian Ensemble for New Music.
In addition, he composed nine orchestral works and a number of works with spiritual content. He also wrote a large number of works for wind ensembles, chamber music, solo vocals and solo instruments.
He's currently teaching at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.
