Greek composer, now resident in Germany, of orchestral and chamber works that have been performed throughout Europe and elsewhere.
Ms. Tzanou studied composition with Franco Donatoni at the Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan from 1993–98, where she graduated with high honors. She has also attended several masterclasses, including ones with Brian Ferneyhough (Szombathely, 1997; Royaumont, 1999), Karlheinz Stockhausen (Kürten, 1998) and Toshio Hosokawa (Royaumont, 1999). In addition, she participated in the Cursus Annuel de Composition et Informatique Musicale at IRCAM in 1999–2000.
Her honors include the Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Preis from the Salzburg Mozarteum (2001, for Nege [withdrawn]), the Johannes-Brahms-Preis in Hamburg (2001, for Natura poetica), the Andrzej Panufnik Prize for the best piece by a composer under 30 in Kraków (2001, for Triptyque), and the Günter Bialas Preis in Munich (2002, for Quintus I). In addition, she received high honors in the Lepo Sumera competition in Tallinn (2003), the Prize of the Greek Critics Union of Drama and Music in Athens (2004, in recognition of her achievement as a young composer) and the Förderpreis der Ernst von Siemens Stiftung (2006, in recognition of her achievement as a young composer). Her works have been performed in Argentina, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, Poland, Romania, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, the UK, and the USA and portrait concerts have been given at the Begegnungen festival in Innsbruck (2000) and the Biennale München (2004).
She has lived in Germany since 2003.
