From 1992 to 1996 Thomas Pehlken studied “Protestant Church Music” at the Music Academy of Cologne. Since October 1996, when he started to study with Prof. Krzysztof Meyer, Pehlken concentrates on composing and spent the academic year 1998/99 at the Akademia Muzyczna in Cracow (Poland), where he worked with Prof. Marek Stachowski. In summer 2000 Pehlken finished his studies in Cologne receiving a diploma.
Pehlken’s work as a musician is split up in different disciplines. Beside of composing he also gave organ and piano concerts in Germany, Poland, Belgium, China, Japan, Singapore and conducted oratorical works of Schütz, Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saëns and others.
In August 1998 Pehlken started to work as a writer for Klassik Online (klassik.com), the mostly read german internet pages about classical music, where every month Pehlken’s essays about famous works of music history are published.
