Igal Myrtenbaum’s diverse musical interests include composition, research and music technologies. His compositions have been performed in Europe, China, Japan and America, and he has taken part in the following festivals workshops and projects among others: Rassegna Internazionale di Composizione - “Alfeo Gigli” (Bologna, Italy); Music – Word – Gesture (Ictus, Brussels, Belgium); the Eighth International Music Forum (Kyev, Ukraine); Assisi Music Days (Assisi, Italy); the Mercury Project (Tokyo, Japan); SafeT Gallery (New York, USA) and Flashpoint (Washington DC, USA). Igal Myrtenbaum composes incidental music for theater, samples of which can be found in MUSICH. Studied piano and cello at the Rubin conservatory in his hometown Haifa, and later studied composition with Yitzchak Sadai at the Rubin Academy of Music, Tel-Aviv University.
He furthered his studies with Jonathan Harvey and Gerard Grisey (Summer Academy, IRCAM, Paris), Alexander Goehr (Jerusalem Music Centre), Johannes Schoellhorn and Georges Aperghis, (Brussels, Belgium).
He completed his Ph.D. studies at Bar-Ilan University with Gideon Lewensohn and Betty Olivero, for which he has been awarded the “Doctorates of Excellency Scholarship” by the University’s President (2001) and the Dean’s Prize for excellent research students (2004).
Igal Myrtenbaum teaches at the Levinsky College. On 2006 he founded together with Dr. Shai Cohen the Electro-acoustic studies at Bar-Ilan university - a unique program devoted to music composition and technology - where he taught untill 2009.
