Bassist Mark Z. Saltman, composer, educator, general sci-fi and anime nut currently resides in Washington, DC. He is the co-founder of SaltmanKnowles, a group which features all original compositions. Their releasesYesterday’s Man and Return of The Composer both made top 30 national Jazz and World Jazz charts respectively.
Mark had the fortune of studying composition with Yusef Lateef, and bass with E. Midge Pike and Salvatore Macchia Nat Reeves and Richie Hartt but doesn’t want them to take the blame for what he does.
He is currently enjoying music from Sting, Ray Brown, Christian McBride, Steely Dan, Dee Dee Bridgewater and the Israeli crew of Jazz musicians.
Mark also is a proponent of the concept of Synaesthesia – ‘combining or correlating music and color’.
Currently, along with freelancing and teaching Concert Band in Public School, he is working on the score for the re-release of the silent film The Maniac Chase.
