Brice Pauset studied the piano, the violin and the harpsichord before taking on writing and finally composition with Michel Philippot, Gerard Grisey, Alain Bancquart in Paris and Franco Donatoni in Sienna (Italy). Awarded a grant in 1994 from the Fondation Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet, then given an internship at IRCAM from 1994 to 1996, he has since devoted himself entirely to his career as composer, professor and performer at the harpsichord and piano of his own works and occasionally in the early music repertoire.
In France, he regularly collaborates with IRCAM, the Fall Festival of Paris and the ensemble Accroche-Note, in Austria with Klangforum-Wien, the festivals Wien-Modern and Musikprotokoll (Graz), and in Germany with the orchestras of the SWR of Baden-Baden/Freiburg, WDR of Cologne, Bayerische Rundfunk (München), the Konzerthaus (Berlin), the ensemble Recherche (Freiburg im Breisgau), the ensemble Aventure (Freiburg im Breisgau), as well as with conductors such as Sylvain Cambreling, Jurjen Hempel, Johannes Kalitzke, Emilio Pomarico, Kwame Ryan, Ed Spanjaard; and soloists such as Salome Kammer (voice), Isabelle Menke (soloist), Nicolas Hodges (piano), Irvine Arditti (violin), Teodoro Anzelotti (accordion).
Brice Pauset taught composition in September 2001 at the Abbay of Royaumont, beside Brian Ferneyhough and Stefano Gervasoni; he regularly gives conferences in France and abroad. Seminars and meetings on his works and his musical approach have been held in Berlin, Frankfurt, Zurich, etc. He was composer in residence at the Mannheim Opera for the 2004-2005 season.
In 2008, Brice Pauset was named professor of composition at the Musikhochschule of Freiburgim-Breisgau, where he has lived since 2002; his catalogue includes some 60 works covering all musical genres from soloist to orchestral, with or without electronic instrumentation.
His works are published by Editions Henry Lemoine. From 2010 to 2015, Brice Pauset will be the Dijon Opera’s composer in residence.
