Swiss composer, now resident in Canada, of mostly orchestral, chamber and vocal works that have been performed throughout the world.
Neidhöfer studied composition with Rudolf Kelterborn, music theory with Roland Moser and piano with Jean-Jacques Dünki at the Musikakademie in Basel from 1986-92. On a Fulbright Scholarship, he finished his studies with David Lewin at Harvard University from 1992-99, where he earned his PhD in music theory with a dissertation on the late works of Igor Stravinsky. While at Harvard, he also worked with Donald Martino and Bernard Rands
Awards include the Kranichsteiner Musikpreis at Darmstadt (1994, for a piano duo with Anton Vishio), First Prize in the Concours International de Composition Musicale de Besançon (1994) and the Akiyoshidai International Composition Award (1997).
He has lived in Canada since 1999, where he is currently Assistant Professor of Music Theory at McGill University in Montréal. In 2000, he lectured at Darmstadt.
Tre Media Musikverlage publishes his music.
